The Ultimate Measure

Hand-cut Typographic Poster

30 x 40 inches

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in time of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.
I personally interpreted this as a measure of character. I doesn’t take much depth to do the right thing when it’s easy, but to make a personal choice to follow one’s morals in a difficult situation requires a strong ethos. I portrayed this visually through both a color gradient and layering. As the poster progresses through the sentence, the color becomes richer and the layers greater, representing added depth and strength.

This poster was cut letter by letter, all by hand. It is held together because of the way the letters all interlock and fit into one another, removing any need for adhesives.
